Single frame DV image. August, 1999

Next to a spare battery, probably the most useful photographic accessory you can have is a reflector. I used a "Photoflex" circular reflector to bounce sunlight onto the leaves in a way that they cast shadows on each other. This adds considerably to the depth apparent in the image and turns a mundane location into something much more interesting. A meter-square piece of cardboard covered with crumpled tin foil would have worked just as well, but the Photoflex is much more convenient as it folds up into a disk about a foot in diameter.
