Bridge to Success

For VFS Film Production graduates Paul McNeill and James Ricker, bringing Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Match Girl to the screen has all the ingredients of a real-life fairy-tale.

After meeting at the Atlantic Film Festival in September 2003, where James was screening his student short film Sweet Lullaby , the two decided to work together on a screen adaptation of Anderson’s classic story. They are now reaping the benefits of their collaboration, having been rewarded with a 2004 Bridge Award.

“We were applying for a half hour TV pilot for a series of Hans Christian Anderson stories, and The Little Match Girl showed them what we could do,” Paul says.
